Connecting your Etsy shop to Twitter

Connecting with people is the essence of Etsy.  And recently, Etsy made it easier to integrate your shop with two other popular social media websites.  You can now connect Etsy with both Facebook and Twitter, and simple little “Follow”” icons show up right under the banner on your Etsy shop page.

A cute reminder for a twitter friend from Kathy at cookiedoughcreations.

Since I have not (yet) created a business page on Facebook, I started with the Twitter link.  On my Etsy Info & Appearance page, I clicked Connect with Twitter and it was done. When folks visit my shop, and like what they see, they can now click my “Follow” link. They then get to see any tweets I post. I use Twitter to share the goings-on of my shop life…to announce new items when I add them, to let folks know when something of mine is included in a Treasury, or just to talk about whatever creative process I am going through each week.

And there’s two sides to this coin.  I now regularly click the Follow link on the pages of other Etsy sellers whenever I am attracted to their work (which happens often).  I then get to read all of their tweets, and learn a lot in the process!

A couple handy hints on using Twitter for Etsy contacts.

  • If you already use Twitter with friends and family, consider setting up a separate Twitter account for business.  New Etsy followers may not want to share the details of your personal communications (nor would you want them to!).
  • Likewise, your friends and family may not want to see all the Etsy-esque tweets about new items, treasuries and favorites. Hard to imagine, I know.
  • Please tweet with discretion.  Only a few times a day.  I have already “unfollowed” several Etsy folks and teams who insisted on tweeting EVERY new item posted or renewed, over and over.  They’re off my list as soon as I start seeing a dozen or more tweets a day stating “New pincushion in green click here…,” “New pincushion in pink click here…,” “New pincushion in red click here…”  TMI folks!
  • Follow me on Twitter.
  • And of course, follow Etsy itself at @Etsy

Etsy has lots of good information about using Twitter.  Find instructions and a video at
